Who are WE?
The NANOMAGIQC Consortium consists of four contractors from two countries(Spain and United Kingdom) representing major research institutions involved inmaterial preparation, quantum phenomena and communication engineering, each partner playing an indispensable role in the project.
The collaboration consists of both experimentalists (3 groups) and theoreticians:
- Participant No. 1. Scientists belonging to the Laboratori de Magnetisme of theUniversitat de Barcelona (UB) will be responsible for
- the preparation of ferri- and antiferromagnetic nanoparticles and magnetic clusters,
- the magnetic characterisation of these systems, and
- the study of feasible measurement set-ups for the microwave and rf resonance experiments allowing the detection and measurement of the magnetic qubits.
- Participant No. 2. The Fundamental & Wavelength Standards team at theNational Physical Laboratory (NPL) (Teddington, UK) is involved in research intoprecision measurement techniques involving, amongst others,
- superconducting electronics (SQUIDs, Josephson oscillators),
- cryogenic UHV STM and AFM, and
- precision magnetic resonance (electronic and nuclear spins).
This team will be responsible mainly for SQUID development and evaluationand will also be involved predominantly in nanoparticle and molecule positioning developments.
- Participant No. 3. The third group of experimental physics, the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), comprises two units:
- Participant No. 4. The theoretical part of the collaboration will be lead by theQuantum Information Processing (QIP) Group based in Hewlett-Packard European Laboratories (HPLB) (Bristol, UK). This group belongs to the Hewlett-Packard Company and has many years of experience in both QIPC theory and quantum phenomena in condensed matter systems.
It should be noted that the collaboration will also play a major role in the education of young scientists involved in the project.
