Project Revision
Workpackage 5 Revised
To stick realistically to the revision of the main project goal, WP5 was renamed from “Realisation of logic gates” to “Development of measurement tools for quantum nanomagnets”.
WP5: Development of measurement tools for quantum nanomagnets
Starting date: 01 January 2004 (Month 24).
Ending date: 31 December 2004 (Month 36).
Participants: NPL, CSIC-IMM.
Objectives
- To develop state-of-the-art measurement devices able to interrogate single nano-magnets.
- To couple these devices to single nano-magnets to allow the study of the fundamental physical behaviour of the nano-magnets under WP6.
Work details
- The work will focus on the development of nano-scale SQUID devices to allow state-of-the-art and quantum limited detection of nano-magnets.
- State-of-the-art devices will be either made in-house or otherwise procured. The devices will then be tested in the conditions required to measure the properties of nano-magnets, to determine their sensitivity and overall applicability to the measurement of the fundamental properties of nano-magnets.
- Novel and new devices will be developed to allow the interrogation of the nano-magnets by a broad spectrum of complimentary measurement techniquesin order to obtain the maximum information regarding the behaviour of the nano-magnets in the quantum regime.
Deliverables
- D5.1 (month 24): Report on the applicability of nano-SQUIDs and other devices to measure the properties of nano-magnets having spins of 1000 or less.
- D5.2 (month 30): Update report on nano-magnet measurement devices.
- D5.3 (month 36): Report on using devices as qubit readout devices.
Milestones
- M5.1 (month 24): Demonstrate state-of-the-art measurement devices.
- M5.2 (month 30): Demonstrate coupling of devices to nano-magnets.
- M5.3 (month 36): Using such devices as nano-magnet qubit readout devices.
